This is my third Shark vacuum. My old Rotator Pro lasted 12 years, and I also use a Stratos corded stick. This upright model features three cleaning settings, and on the hard floor setting, it left nothing behind—no cereal crumbs, stray kitty litter, or pet fur clumps. However, the warning light indicating that the rollers weren’t working never activated, so I continued using it. The suction power at all settings was so strong that I had to use the lift-away feature and an attachment to vacuum the dog’s bed. The dust bin is spacious and very easy to empty, and the controls are intuitive and well-placed. While the hose could be longer for overhead tasks, the extension cord length is impressive. The dark blue color made every pet hair cling to the plastic base and column due to static electricity very noticeable, so having another color option would be appreciated. The small odor-neutralizing cup with the scented insert didn’t make much of a difference, even when I adjusted the scent knob to a higher setting; it’s not something I consider essential. I’m also unsure if I need to use the costly scented inserts to maintain suction in the future, so I would prefer to do without it. It is a bit heavy and somewhat noisy, but that’s a small trade-off for the powerful performance. Overall, I’m very happy with my latest Shark!

I predict that this vacuum will be the best you can buy at retail. We had a Shark for 16 years, and it’s still going strong. We only had to replace the hoses and brushes once during that time. The Shark replaced our Eureka, which had half the power of the Shark Navigator we purchased. Fast forward to the Powerdetect, and we’re once again impressed by its performance. The filtration is excellent, and the suction and brush power are outstanding. The addition of LED lights and infrared dirt detection is fantastic! Plus, the larger canister and longer cord are great upgrades from the Navigator. The touch sensors on the handle for adjusting modes based on floor types are a thoughtful feature. Users will appreciate the sensor that boosts suction when close to baseboards, effectively picking up debris from edges. We personally enjoy the deodorizer’s fragrance, although we worry it might be artificially made and not entirely healthy. On our first use, we took some time to deep clean the carpet with the infrared technology, which we suspect was due to six years of accumulated dust, dander, and pet hair missed by the old vacuum. Now, we’ll see how this unit holds up over time. We hope it lasts as long as our previous Shark, but we think the sensors may be the first to fail, similar to vehicles. One downside is that it’s heavier than the Navigator and tends to pull forward while in use, which is understandable given the larger motor needed for its impressive suction.
