Buyer’s Guide: What to Consider When Buying the Dyson Ball Animal 3

1. Suction Power and Performance

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 boasts advanced suction technology, including Radial Root Cyclone technology that increases suction capability while effectively removing dirt and particles from your home. This vacuum is specifically engineered to handle the fur and messes of larger households with pets.

2. De-tangling Motorbar™ Cleaner Head

One of the standout features of this model is its de-tangling technology. The Motorbar™ cleaner head automatically clears wrapped hair from the brush bar while you clean, making it particularly useful for pet owners. This feature saves time and hassle, ensuring that hair doesn’t get tangled and impede performance.

3. Maneuverability

The ball technology allows for easy navigation around furniture and other obstacles with a mere twist of the wrist. This design contributes to a more effortless cleaning experience, especially in homes with tight spaces.

4. Versatility

With three cleaning modes, you can tailor the vacuum’s performance to various tasks. Whether you’re dealing with thick carpets, hardwood floors, or delicate rugs, this vacuum offers optimized settings for complete control over your cleaning.

5. Whole-Machine Filtration

Dyson’s advanced whole-machine filtration system ensures that allergens and particles remain trapped inside the vacuum rather than being expelled into the air. This feature is particularly beneficial for allergy sufferers.

6. Bagless Design and Washable Filters

The bagless design means you’ll never have to worry about replacing vacuum bags, and the washable filters can be easily cleaned, ensuring long-term maintenance and efficiency.

7. Included Accessories

The vacuum comes with essential tools, including a combination tool, a stair tool, and a tool holder, making it versatile enough to tackle various cleaning challenges.

8. Weight and Portability

Though the Dyson Ball Animal 3 is heavier than some vacuums, it is designed for stability and durability. Being corded, you won’t need to worry about battery life, but be mindful of its weight when navigating stairs or lifting it for storage.

A 5-year warranty and lifetime customer support from Dyson ensure that your investment is protected, giving you peace of mind for years to come.

After my two vacuums of twenty years stopped working, I decided to buy a Dyson and a Shark. The Dyson has slightly more power and does a marginally better job at cleaning, but both vacuums perform well overall. I appreciate the front light on the Shark and its versatility with the removable dust bucket, which makes cleaning stairs much easier. The Shark is also easier to maneuver and feels more stable. The detangler feature on both vacuums is fantastic. For the price, I lean towards the Shark, but both are excellent choices that deliver great cleaning results.

  2. Ann Rafferty

I absolutely adore my Dyson vacuum! My dog sheds constantly throughout the year, and this vacuum collects an incredible amount of hair—I’m truly impressed. It’s fantastic!

  3. Sam

This vacuum boasts impressive suction power, although it can be a bit challenging to maneuver at times. Fortunately, there are adjustable brush settings that make it easier to push. While it has a somewhat cheap and flimsy feel—similar to my previous Dyson—the connection points do seem a bit weak and insecure. However, despite this lightweight feel, nothing has broken on me. My last Dyson lasted nearly ten years before I donated it, with only the hose needing a replacement due to wear. It is heavier than many vacuums, but not as heavy as some reviews suggest. My main issue with this vacuum is the collection bin; it doesn’t feel very secure when locked in place. Although it won’t actually come apart, it feels loose and like it could fall off when you handle it. Given the price, I’d appreciate a better fit.

This vacuum is a total game-changer for managing the daily fur explosion from my cat and dog duo. It’s incredibly effective on carpets, effortlessly picking up pet hair, which has been such a relief. However, navigating stairs is quite the challenge due to the stiff hose—it feels like trying to tame a stubborn python. On the plus side, the sleek design is impressive, especially with the attachments fitting neatly on the side. Plus, it’s lightweight, making it much easier to lift compared to my old Kenmore vacuum. Here’s hoping the hose becomes a bit more flexible soon; otherwise, I might need to try some vacuum yoga!

I spent a lot of time researching various Dyson models before deciding on the Animal 3, and I really hoped the negative reviews weren’t too concerning. I’ll share my thoughts here, as it would have helped me during my purchase. The listing I bought from included Animal 2, Animal 3, and Animal 3 Extra models. After comparing reviews for all three, I ultimately chose the Animal 3, and I’m really happy with that decision.

First off, I almost didn’t buy this vacuum because of the negative reviews claiming it struggles on thick carpets. Even Dyson’s own site had a lot of those bad reviews! However, I’m pleased to say I haven’t experienced any issues on my shaggy, thick carpets. It works perfectly on either carpet setting—just adjust it and go!

I had a ball Dyson before and wasn’t a fan, which made me hesitant. The swivel mechanism on my old model was too loose, causing it to veer off course when I wanted to push it straight. The Animal 3, however, has a tighter feel that allows it to stay straight while still being easy to maneuver.

Another issue with my previous Dyson was that it would tip over when I pulled on the hose. The Animal 3, likely due to its slightly heavier weight, remains stable even when the hose is fully extended and being moved around.

PROS: The suction is excellent, and it glides smoothly. I really appreciate how it reaches all the way to the edge when I run the side of the vacuum head along the baseboard, unlike my last vacuum, which left a gap. The rotating brush does a fantastic job at gathering hair. I have long hair, and my daughter does as well, so I’ve spent plenty of time cutting hair out of previous vacuum beater bars. With the Animal 3, I’ve vacuumed my whole house multiple times without a single strand of hair getting wrapped around the bar.

To my surprise, I LOVE the small stair tool! Vacuuming carpeted stairs has been a struggle for years, but this tool, which seems designed for hard floors, does an amazing job removing dirt and fluffing the carpet, even on the edges and the vertical part under each step. The wand swivels at the end, making it easy to change angles while cleaning the stairs. Finally, I can vacuum without lifting a heavy upright model and hurting my back! Overall, I’m very satisfied with this vacuum, especially since I was unsure about getting another Dyson after my previous experience. If anything changes, I’ll update this review.

CONS: It is a bit heavy, but it feels similar to my last vacuum (a Hoover WindTunnel) or my previous Dyson, so the weight isn’t a major concern for me. Some plastic parts seem fragile for such an expensive vacuum. The cord hooks look like they could break easily, and the thin plastic mechanism for emptying the tank feels delicate—if that breaks, it would be a hassle. For several hundred dollars, I expected more durability, but I was aware of this issue beforehand, which is why I rate it just below 5 stars. When I put the hose wand back in, it can be a little sticky at the last bit, requiring some force to slide it into place. Sometimes it goes in easily, so I’m not sure if it’s just my unit or a common issue with other Animal 3 models.

I also don’t like that there isn’t a release to tilt the vacuum; you have to just crack it down to start vacuuming. However, it’s easier to do with the Animal 3 than with my prior model.

Overall, I was very skeptical about buying this vacuum, but I’m thrilled with how well it performs, especially when vacuuming my stairs. It’s truly a game changer!

Quick shipping and simple assembly. The suction power is incredible! This is my second Dyson; my first one is a decade old and still works great—my husband uses it in the garage.

  7. Irene Shepard

I absolutely love this vacuum! As a proud owner of a furry dog, I know how tough it can be to keep rugs and cars free of hair. After my first use, I was amazed at how much hair it picked up—enough to make a second dog! We only have carpet in the bedroom and a large rug in the living room and dining room. While we do use a Roomba for daily cleaning (which works well on wood floors and manages to go over the three rugs), this vacuum blew me away with the amount of hair it collected from those rugs—enough to give my pup a “buddy”!

The vacuum is very maneuverable, easily navigating around furniture and dog beds. I originally purchased it for my Tahoe, and it performed wonderfully! The only downsides are that it’s a bit heavy to lift (but I see it as a way to build arm strength) and it can be somewhat loud (for those sensitive to noise, I suggest turning up the music or using earplugs). That said, it didn’t bother me.

For my Tahoe, I simply folded down the back seats and set the vacuum inside. Thanks to its design, I was able to clean the back area with ease. Reaching under the seats and into corners—where dog hair loves to hide—was a bit tricky, but the attachments worked well. I removed the floor liners and vacuumed them separately, leaving them completely hair-free. With a bit of patience and effort, I managed to eliminate about 95% of the hair in my Tahoe, which is quite an achievement for anyone with a furry friend! I haven’t tried the attachment meant for pets yet, but given how well this vacuum performed, I have high hopes it will do a fantastic job—if I can just get my dog near it!

  8. Sharon

I’m absolutely delighted with my Dyson vacuum! With three pets in the house, the fur can accumulate quickly and get into hard-to-reach spots. Thanks to the attachments and its powerful suction, cleaning it all up is a breeze! I’m so glad I finally invested in a Dyson; it’s worth every penny for a vacuum that promises longevity.

  9. Carlos

It arrived two days earlier than expected and it picks up incredibly well; you can see in the photo how it sucked up even the tiniest dust particles from my mattress. This brand is amazing!
